[intro]When you have completed this Guide, you’ll understand how to change the design of your online shop and will be able to determine the difference between responsive Themes and those with a separate mobile template. You’ll also know how to hide your online shop behind a password wall to prevent anyone from seeing it until it’s time for your Obodo shop to launch![/intro]

The first step to creating your Obodo shop is to apply a Theme, as this applies the bare bones of your shop design before you add your own branding and images to it. On Obodo, the Themes have been divided into industry types as a guideline to help you select the right design for your brand and your products. However, all Themes can be applied simply by adding your own logo and design images which compliment your brand.

Selecting your Theme

1. To change your theme, log into your account and click the Design button:

2. On this page, click the Edit button on the far left beneath the largest Theme image:

3. Select the second option, Change Theme:

4. This will take you the Themes area, populated with every Theme currently available on the Obodo platform:

Down the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a grey menu bar where you can select your Theme based on your industry if you choose. When selecting your Theme, ensure that the menu of the Theme is how you want it to be going forward. There are lots of different kinds of menus, but these cannot be edited as they are native to the Theme. When you see a Theme you like, click the Preview button to look at the Theme in more Detail, or click Apply Theme to add this Theme to your Obodo shop.

What is a Responsive Theme?

A responsive Theme provides an excellent user experience as research has confirmed that more users than ever are using mobile devices such as phones and tablets over laptops and desktop computers to shop online. Responsive Themes are coded in such a way that the content - all of the different elements and images - which make up your Obodo shop, will adjust themselves automatically, depending on the size of the browser being used to view them. This means that whether customers use a phone, laptop, desktop or tablet to view your Obodo shop, the design will be the same across all devices.

Testing your Theme

5. To see how your Obodo shop looks with the Theme applied, you need to click the Settings tab on the top right:

6. Beneath the Shop Settings header on the top left of the screen, you need to click Domain Name:

7. This will reveal the current Domain Name of your Shop, which will look something like this:

Every Obodo shop has a domain name like this to begin with, as technically the shop is live the moment the account is opened. The domain name consists partly of your Account ID and this domain name is visible on the front end of your Obodo shop until you apply a domain name to it. Copy the domain name of your shop and paste into a new tab in your browser, before pressing enter.

This will reveal how your Obodo shop looks to customers at the moment. When experimenting with different Themes, it’s a good idea to keep this browser tab open so you can view how the different Themes display until you’ve discovered one that you’re happy with.
